Isla Amantani, Peru

We spent the night with a family on the Island of Amantani in Lake Titicaca. They kept us busy with climbing to the top of the island to see the sunset followed by a fiesta for which they dressed us in traditional clothing. Regular readers will be pleased to learn that the majority of the toys, lollies and trinkets we bought on the metro in Mexico City found a good home with the children of the family Isidora. In the meantime we found an excellent use for the little torch: guiding us over the rough island paths (and lack thereof) after dark. While the island itself lay silent, we picked our way over rocks and down steep inclines towards our beds, heaped with blankets against the cold night air.
